Nagisa Saito

​

Born in 2003 in Okazaki, Aichi, Japan.
Later moved to Obu, then to Thailand.
After spending some time at an elementary school in Tokyo, I returned to Obu. Frequent relocations in childhood made "communication" the core of my personality.

After studying abroad in Ireland,
I decided to pursue an arts-based university path. Now based in Kyoto, I study design that engages with society and human relationships—
though I often wonder if I’m, at heart, more of an “art” person than a “design” one.

I once joined youth sustainability projects (like nest), trying to find a design-based way to contribute. But I found myself questioning what design even meant to me, and chose to step away for a while.

Now, I’ve come to see design not as a solution, but as a posture—an intentional act of choice. With this mindset, I’m learning how to pivot and keep creating.

Through various encounters and exchanges, I’ve discovered the diversity of how people work and live.
I’m currently walking a path that’s mine alone, still being shaped as I go.

I’m not exactly an academic type,
but I do love connecting dots between ideas and knowledge.
A secret (or not-so-secret) dream of mine
is to rank above a certain cute idol who shares my name when you Google “Nagisa Saito.”

My interests include folklore, language, and the surreal moments in the everyday.
I’m drawn to activities that blur boundaries
and stitch together the common threads that lie beneath.

Right now, I’m working on projects
that translate my inner world
into something that can speak to you.

For the record:
my only non-negotiable condition for choosing where to live in Japan
is whether there’s a Book Off or a public library nearby.
